Description of the study

The bachelor's degree program in civil engineering at Kiel University of Applied Sciences was newly introduced in 2018 and impresses with its modern facilities, up-to-date content, and a clear focus on the challenges of the future. The program lasts eight semesters and concludes with a Bachelor of Engineering degree. Students can expect a solid education in the classic fundamental subjects such as mathematics, physics, mechanics, statics, and strength of materials, supplemented by practice-oriented content such as building materials technology, surveying, hydromechanics, CAD applications, and building construction.

Special attention is paid to the four areas of specialization, which can be chosen from the sixth semester onwards. Those interested in sustainable construction will find in-depth content on energy-efficient construction, sustainable planning, and modern building technology in the Green Building area. The classic specialization in Structural Engineering focuses on solid and steel construction as well as structural design, among other things. Those who want to help shape the infrastructural development of cities can delve into transportation and infrastructure. And with a focus on hydraulic engineering and coastal protection, topics such as flood protection, port facilities, and water management take center stage.

The program is highly practice-oriented: a mandatory internship semester, realistic project work, excursions, and close exchange with companies and authorities in the construction and environmental sectors make the program particularly relevant to professional practice. Graduates find employment in engineering offices, on construction sites, in administration, or in the field of environmental planning—and can then continue their education with a suitable master's degree.
