Electrical engineering - Studies in Kiel
Description of the study
The bachelor's degree program in Electrical Engineering (B.Eng.) at Kiel University of Applied Sciences offers a broad-based, practical education over seven semesters. The aim is to systematically prepare students for the complex requirements of modern technical professions—from the fundamentals of engineering to specific applications in energy and information technology.
In the first two semesters (“basic studies”), students acquire a sound knowledge of mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, and computer science. They learn how technical systems are described physically and mathematically, how modeling works in practice, and how these models can be implemented using software. The third semester marks the beginning of the “advanced studies” phase, in which more in-depth subjects are added and students specialize.
There are two future-oriented areas of specialization to choose from:
- Energy technology
- Information technology
Key competencies such as project management, team leadership, and economic fundamentals are taught alongside the technical subjects. Practical relevance is a top priority at Kiel University of Applied Sciences: students work in modern laboratories on practical projects and complete a mandatory internship and their bachelor's thesis in the seventh semester. The program is ideal for anyone who wants to understand, design, and further develop technical contexts. Graduates have excellent career prospects – for example in the energy industry, mechanical and plant engineering, automation technology, or digital infrastructure. In addition, the degree qualifies graduates for further master's programs – for example in “Electrical Technologies” or “Mechatronics.”
