Electrical engineering and information technology - Studies in Heide
Description of the study
The bachelor's degree program in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at West Coast University of Applied Sciences in Heide is a practice-oriented full-time program lasting seven semesters, which concludes with the academic degree Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.). The program is open to all applicants and begins in the winter semester. An eight-week basic internship is required, most of which should be completed before the start of the program.
In the first semesters, students acquire a sound knowledge of mathematics, physics, and computer science, which serves as the basis for advanced modules. Building on this, central topics in electrical engineering and information technology are covered, including electrical networks, signal processing, power electronics, microcontrollers, and control engineering.
Starting in the fourth semester, students choose one of two specializations:
- Automation and Computer Science: Focus on control engineering, process control engineering, bus systems, and communication networks.
- Microtechnologies and Electronic Systems: Focus on transmission technology, digital signal processing, circuit and circuit board design, and assembly and connection technology.
A special feature of the program is the integrated 20-week practical semester in the fifth semester, which enables students to gain practical experience in companies and apply the knowledge they have acquired during their studies. The courses combine theoretical fundamentals with practical application in modern laboratories. Project work and excursions promote the transfer of theory into practice and enable students to apply their knowledge in real-world projects.
Graduates of the program are qualified for a wide range of professional fields, including energy supply, automation technology, telecommunications, and research and development. The degree also provides access to advanced master's programs in Germany and abroad.
