Description of the study

The Master's program in Mechanical Engineering at Kiel University of Applied Sciences offers comprehensive in-depth study of applied engineering sciences and prepares students to master complex technical challenges and develop innovative solutions. This consecutive full-time program, which comprises 120 ECTS credits over four semesters, focuses on the practical application of scientific methods. Students not only acquire in-depth knowledge in areas such as drive technology, design engineering, and materials engineering, but also develop the ability to critically question and further develop this knowledge.

A special feature of the program is the integration of current research and development activities, which enable students to collaborate on real-world projects and thus gain valuable practical experience. In addition, great importance is attached to reflecting on the social and ecological impacts of engineering activities.

The course offers elective modules that allow for individual specializations—for example, in energy technology, fluid mechanics, or product development. The prerequisite for admission is a first university degree (bachelor's or diploma) in mechanical engineering or a related engineering program. In addition to sound technical qualifications, the program also promotes interdisciplinary thinking, particularly with regard to current topics such as resource efficiency, digitalization, and sustainable technology development.
