Renewable offshore energies - Studies in Kiel

University: Kiel University of Applied Sciences
Department/Faculty: Department of Mechanical Engineering
Location: Kiel
Degree: Bachelor
Start of course: Winter semester

Description of the study

The bachelor's degree program in Renewable Offshore Energy at Kiel University of Applied Sciences offers practical and interdisciplinary training that focuses on the planning, development, and operation of offshore facilities for the use of renewable energies. The program focuses in particular on wind turbines, but also on wave and tidal power plants.

The program lasts seven semesters and concludes with a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree. The language of instruction is German, and enrollment takes place at the beginning of the winter semester. A twelve-week pre-study internship must be completed by the beginning of the fourth semester. Students acquire in-depth knowledge in the fields of mechanical engineering, shipbuilding, and offshore technology. They learn how offshore installations are planned, designed, and operated under the challenging environmental conditions at sea. Both technical and economic aspects are taken into account.

A special feature of the program is the close connection between theory and practice. For example, Kiel University of Applied Sciences operates the FINO1 research platform, which provides important data for offshore research. In addition, students have the opportunity to participate in current research projects and deepen their knowledge in real-world applications. Graduates of the program are well prepared for careers in the offshore wind energy sector, the maritime industry, or research institutions. They contribute to the development and implementation of innovative solutions for a sustainable energy supply.
