Department/Faculty: FB2 Energy and Life Science
Location: Flensburg
Degree: Bachelor
Start of course: Winter semester, Summer semester

Description of the study

The bachelor's degree program in Sustainable Energy Systems at Flensburg University of Applied Sciences prepares students to actively shape the challenges of the energy transition. In cooperation with the European University of Flensburg, the program offers an interdisciplinary education that takes into account the technical, economic, and social aspects of energy supply.

In the first two semesters, students acquire basic knowledge in mathematics, natural sciences, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and energy economics. From the third semester onwards, they choose one of three fields of study:

  • Electrical Energy Technology
  • Renewable Energy Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering Energy Transition

These specializations allow students to focus on their interests and career goals. In the fifth and sixth semesters, they can choose elective modules to further specialize in areas such as solar thermal energy, high-voltage technology, or circular economy. The seventh semester includes an internship semester and the bachelor's thesis. A special feature of the program is the close integration of theory and practice. Students have the opportunity to apply their knowledge directly to the wind and solar energy systems on campus. In addition, the “Industrial Engineering Energy Transition” specialization includes a mandatory semester abroad to gain international experience and broaden horizons.

Graduates of the program are able to plan, coordinate, and manage complex projects in the field of sustainable energy supply. They find employment opportunities in energy and environmental technology, the electrical engineering industry, mechanical and plant engineering, and consulting firms for energy and climate policy.
