Transformational - Studies in Flensburg
Description of the study
The interdisciplinary Master's program in Transformation Studies at Europa-Universität Flensburg is dedicated to the causes and effects of unsustainable lifestyles and economic practices in modern societies. The focus is on the analysis of socio-ecological crises such as climate change, resource scarcity and environmental pollution as well as research into the possibilities and limits of social transformation under the guiding principle of sustainability.
The four-semester full-time course leads to a Master of Arts degree and begins in the winter semester. It is aimed at graduates with a first university degree of at least six semesters and 180 ECTS credits. The language of instruction is German. The study program is structured into three thematic focuses: Diagnoses of the present, historical reconstructions and future variants. Qualitative methods of empirical social research as well as transdisciplinary and participatory approaches are taught. Creative and project-oriented work is given space in the Transformation Design module.
Students have the opportunity to become actively involved in transformative projects, such as the Flensburg Utopia Workshop or the Transformative Denk- und Machwerk e.V. These initiatives offer space for practical experience and the implementation of theoretical concepts in real contexts. Graduates of the course are qualified to work in research facilities, administrations, political consulting, companies and institutions in which change processes are relevant in the context of sustainability.
