Prof. Dr. Matthias Schmelzer is Professor of Social-Ecological Transformation Research at the European University of Flensburg. He heads the Norbert Elias Center for Transformation Design & Research at the European University of Flensburg as well as the MA Transformation Studies. Schmelzer researches and publishes on socio-ecological transformation, economic history, sustainability, social movements, climate crisis, neoliberalism, capitalism, economics and degrowth. He is the author of the award-winning book "The Hegemony of Growth: The OECD and the Making of the Growth Paradigm" (Cambridge University Press, 2016), co-editor of "Degrowth in Movement(s): Exploring pathways for transformation" and co-author of "The Future Is Degrowth: A Guide to a World beyond Capitalism" (Verso, 2022) and "The New Socio-Ecological Class Conflict" (Campus, 2024).
