Short description

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Sören Ehlers was born in Darmstadt in 1979. In 2004, he completed his studies in mechanical engineering with a focus on shipbuilding and marine technology. In 2009, he received his doctorate with honors in shipbuilding from the Helsinki University of Technology, where he subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher. In 2011, he became professor of sustainable maritime transport in the Arctic and ship design under ice loads at NTNU in Trondheim. Since 2014, he has been professor of construction and strength at the Technical University of Hamburg and was head of the corresponding institute until 2021. Since 2022, he has been director of the DLR Institute of Maritime Energy Systems.
