Short description
Professor of Intelligent Systems at the Institute of Computer Science at CAU in Kiel. Research in the area of intelligent systems and machine learning with a focus on learning at runtime of the system. Main techniques from the areas of reinforcement learning (for control decisions), anomaly/novelty detection (detection of possibly dangerous situations but also wear and tear, etc.), transfer and active learning (i.e. efficient involvement of humans in learning processes as well as self-modeling of own knowledge). Furthermore expertise in classification problems as well as deep learning.
