University: Kiel University of Applied Sciences
Department/Faculty: Agriculture
Location: Kiel
Degree: Master
Start of course: Winter semester, Summer semester

Description of the study

The Master's programme in Agricultural Management at Kiel University of Applied Sciences is aimed at graduates of agricultural science or related degree programmes who wish to deepen their knowledge in the field of management and business administration. In just three semesters, students receive a sound and practical education that optimally prepares them for management positions in the agricultural and food industry.

In the first two semesters, the focus is on building and deepening business and production fundamentals. The emphasis is not only on imparting knowledge, but also on its application: in two challenging master's seminars, students learn to work on scientific questions independently, document their findings and present them convincingly. They deal with current management, market and political aspects of the agricultural sector and apply modern methods of data analysis, controlling, and environmental and resource management.

The programme combines economic thinking with entrepreneurial responsibility and also attaches great importance to topics such as sustainability, digitalisation, human resource management and entrepreneurial action. Students acquire the ability to make strategic decisions in agribusiness, develop business plans and critically evaluate financing models. In the third semester, they devote themselves to their Master's thesis, in which they work on a topic of their own choice in a practical and scientifically sound manner. The programme is not restricted in terms of admission, but a first degree with an agricultural focus and at least 180 ECTS credits as well as a final grade of 2.8 or better are required. The Master of Science degree opens up a wide range of career prospects – both in agricultural companies and in agricultural consulting, agricultural trade or public administration.
