Beschreibung des Studiums

The bachelor's degree program in Sustainable Agriculture at Kiel University of Applied Sciences is a practice-oriented, full-time program lasting seven semesters that teaches the fundamentals of natural, economic, and social sciences with a special focus on sustainability in agriculture. The aim is to help shape a modern, sustainable agricultural economy that is ecologically responsible, economically viable, and socially just.

In the first four semesters, 22 compulsory modules teach key knowledge in animal and plant production as well as business management. The focus is on questions such as how agricultural processes can be made more sustainable, natural resources conserved, and social demands on agriculture met. Direct practical relevance is an integral part of the program: exercises in the field, in the laboratory, and on farms are planned, as are voluntary excursions in Germany and abroad. In addition, students learn to independently address current specialist topics and present them in seminars.

A six-month pre-study internship or relevant completed vocational training must be proven by the beginning of the third semester. The program begins in both the summer and winter semesters and is open to all applicants. The program is accompanied by practical projects, interdisciplinary group work, and a mandatory internship in the fifth semester.

Graduates are well prepared for careers in agriculture, the agri-food industry, feed or environmental companies, consulting institutions, or government agencies. A career in research or a further master's degree are also possible. The program not only enables graduates to work in their field, but also to reflect on the effects of their actions in larger ecological and social contexts—and to actively participate in the transformation of the agricultural sector.
